History

MISA has been established in the Province of Ontario since 1971 and in the Province of British Columbia since 1994. Municipalities in other provinces gradually established MISA chapters from the late 1990s.  The first formal meeting of MISA Atlantic took place in July 2005, and the first Annual General Meeting of MISA Prairies took place in April 2006.

MISA Prairies was originally conceived of in November 2002 as part of a larger initiative to create a national organization.    Since then members of MISA Prairies have met at the MISA BC meetings and worked towards establishing a Prairies Chapter.   In September 2005 MISA Prairies had enough members to start working towards a more formal organization.

The four MISA chapters, together with RIMQ (Réseau de l'informatique municipale du Québec), formed a national association, MISA/ASIM Canada (Municipal Information Systems Association/Association des systèmes d'information municipale Canada), which was formally launched in Ottawa on June 6, 2006.
